Kicking off Season 9 - Accord Symphony Orchestra
The Accord Symphony Orchestra and Carter Legacy Singers delivered a stirring performance at Oatlands Historic Gardens in September 2024, blending history, artistry, and remembrance of those who have passed on. Set against the backdrop of the former plantation, the program honored the resilience and contributions of Black musicians, past and present.
The evening featured Beethoven’s Christ on the Mount of Olives, showcasing the orchestra’s dynamic expressiveness, alongside Florence Price’s Symphony No. 1, a powerful tribute to African American heritage in classical music. The Carter Legacy Singers, dedicated to preserving the work of the late Nathan Carter—renowned choirmaster and arts advocate—brought depth and passion to a selection of spirituals, their voices soaring with reverence and emotion. It was a moving experience.
This collaboration was more than a concert; it was a reflection on music’s power to bridge history and healing.
